Murder S/He Read: True Crime Book Club meeting FEB 11th at 6pm
Murder S/He Read is shifting gears, this month, to feature Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. Named one of the MOST INFLUENTIAL BOOKS OF THE DECADE by CNN, BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR by The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Seattle Times, Esquire and Time in addition to being awarded the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction, the NAACP Image Award for Nonfiction, and Books for a Better Life Award, this book describes the impact on the lives of an individual, his family, his community, and society at large when the justice system fails and wrongly incarcerates an innocent man.
So much of this lively book club is spent discussing the ways in which criminal investigations go awry with poor handling of evidence, witnesses, etc. in the case of murders and delays in solving the crimes of ACTUAL murderers...this book is sure to push that discussion further in grappling with the investigation of someone who is wrongly accused.
Connexus Liber: a Drop-In Book Club meeting FEB 27th at 6pm
This is a twisted tale of a polygamist who conceals the identities of his wives from each other, referring to them only as the day of the week on which he schedules their regular visits. It becomes too tempting when one of the wives (who, I believe has a bit of a jealous streak) finds clues that help lead her to discover the identity of the others...and, perhaps more intriguing when she finds that the character of her husband may not match up with the man she thinks she knows and loves.
I am excited to get into this thriller with book club go-ers, this month. Fans of suspense-style writing are in for a wild ride and a lot to discuss!!
Featured books will be 20% off at Bound Booksellers during the month of February.
